plant walk 1Rural Action and United Plant Savers will be hosting a “Birds and Herbs” spring outing on Saturday May 9, 2015 from 9 a.m. until Noon. The event will be held in Meigs County at United Plant Savers 300 acre Goldenseal Sanctuary near Rutland Ohio. This property features some of the best herb and wildflower populations found in Southeast Ohio. The forests, fields, and waterways on the property also host an abundant variety of both resident and migratory songbirds, especially the colorful and musical warblers that migrate to North America from the tropics.

We will start the morning with a guided bird hike, led by Tanner Filyaw and Joe Brehm, and will conclude with an informative herb and wildflower tour, led by Chip Carroll. The cost to attend is $15 per person. Space is limited so register soon to reserve your place. Attendees are asked to dress for the weather, wear sturdy hiking shoes/boots, and to bring water and light snacks. A few extra pairs of binoculars will be available for attendees who do not have their own. Extreme weather, and heavy rain will cancel the event.
